We redesigned TVNZ's Ondemand service as a cohesive omni-channel user experience.
The design system needed to work across diverse devices: mobile, tablet, desktop, smart TV, and more. And they all needed to be designed simultaneously.
Digital Arts decided to design for a minimal interaction model – an Apple TV remote – to ensure the same interaction model could be used universally. This correlated to an interface made up of a vertical stack of horizonal collections – familiar to users of the iOS App Store, or the Netflix interface.
Digital Arts simultaneously developed the design across Mobile, Tablet (iOS and Android) and Web end-points. The brand, developed in-house by TVNZ, was interpreted and extended with standard animations and interactive behaviours.
The emerging solution was usability tested through medium-fidelity interactive prototypes, to evaluate navigation and key functionality. These prototypes were functional, including the Brightcove video player technology to enable testing of all playback features.
We encouraged the client Product Owner and key stakeholders to observe testing, to create alignment and reduce shorten decision-making cycles.
And we worked closely with TVNZ's technology partners – Alphero (mobile apps) and Accedo (Smart TV apps) – to ease implementation.
Over a four months project, we delivered a complete design solution for Responsive Web, and multi-platform mobile and tablet App designs. We also delivered fully tested front-end code for the Responsive Web implementation.
